HI, I'M DES. . .
I've been on a journey with health & wellness for over ten years. This season of life has brought me to a point where I've become incredibly passionate about sharing what I've learned and encouraging others that there's always an alternative. I recently graduated from AFPA’s Holistic Nutritionist program and am very excited to be able to share so much of what I’ve learned over the years with you! Whether you're interested in learning how to cook and sustain a "clean" and nutritious diet, dump your cleaning products and create a "chemical free" home, or make more mindful decisions about your health or the environment- you're in the right place.
My adventure with health & wellness started when I became chronically ill at the age of fifteen. It's a long story, but it dramatically impacted the way I look at western healthcare, nutrition, and the immediate environments that we create for ourselves in our homes. It took a full ten years to get all the proper diagnoses: Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Ehler's Danlos Hypermobility Type (hEDS), and Mast Cell Activation.
This blog will be a bit unlike many others. I'd like to call it a "no nonsense approach." You won't find tons of photos or long instructional posts on how to cook something; but you will find quick recipes and informational blog posts on food, personal care products, and other lifestyle topics encouraging you toward a healthier future.
I reside in Pennsylvania with my husband, Jacob (who I am convinced is the world's most incredible man), and our dog-child, Braxton. It's safe to say that they both have fallen in love with a lot of healthy foods (especially the dog- he'll eat just about any veggie you drop in front of him).
Although I've been very passionate about nutrition, until my recent graduation from AFPA, that was all previously learned in the "school of life," so to speak. After high-school, I continued my education at Berklee College of Music in Boston, which eventually landed me back in PA for a full-time job in music ministry. I had to step away from that due to the aforementioned health conditions, and now I work part-time in production, as well as teach private piano lessons out of our home.
I hope by sharing pieces of my personal journey that conventional thoughts would be challenged, others' stories would be validated, and ultimately that we would all create healthier lifestyles and communities for ourselves, our families, and the environment. Thanks for joining me!
